Cheyenne Frontier Days - the 'Daddy of 'em All' - returns July 17-26, 2026 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It is the largest outdoor rodeo and western celebration in the world: nine nights of PRCA rodeo, headline concerts, four grand parades, and ten days where western style is the dress code. If it is your first time (or your tenth), here is exactly what to wear.
The Golden Rule of Frontier Days Style
Authentic, not costume. The locals' formula is simple: real leather, real denim, broken-in boots, and nothing you would call 'flashy.' Understated western beats rhinestone cowboy every single time.
What to Wear: The Core Kit
- A genuine leather jacket. Wyoming in July swings from 12°C mornings to 30°C afternoons. A leather trucker like our Trucker Harrington in Nevada Brown blocks the morning wind at the parade and ties the whole outfit together at the evening rodeo.
- Pearl-snap western shirt - plaid or solid, short or long sleeve.
- Dark bootcut or straight jeans - no rips, no distressing.
- Broken-in cowboy boots. Do not wear new boots to a 12-hour day. Start breaking them in now.
- Leather belt with a modest buckle. Big buckles are for champions - a plain full-grain strap does the job.
- A hat - classic cowboy, straw, or flat-brim all work.
Day-by-Day: Match the Outfit to the Event
Rodeo Days (afternoons)
Sun protection matters: hat, light shirt, jeans, boots. Tie your jacket at the waist or leave it at the hotel until evening.
Night Shows & Concerts
This is leather jacket territory. Temperatures drop fast after sunset in Wyoming. A black biker jacket over a white tee is the cleanest concert look in the grandstand.
The Grand Parades (both Saturdays + Tuesday & Thursday, 9 a.m.)
Morning parades are the coolest part of the day - layer up. Women: leather jacket over a sundress with ankle boots is the signature Frontier Days look. Explore our Women's Leather Jackets in colors from classic black to pink.
Cowgirls of the West Brunch & Fashion Show
The dressiest event of the week. This is where a refined leather piece - a fitted women's biker or a shearling-collar jacket - outshines every denim jacket in the room.
What NOT to Wear
- Brand-new unbroken boots (your feet will not forgive you)
- An oversized champion belt buckle you did not win
- Costume-shop western wear - fringe overload, plastic hats
- Shorts and sandals at the rodeo grounds (dust, dirt, and long days)
One Jacket, Ten Days
The reason we recommend genuine leather over denim for Frontier Days: it handles the temperature swings, it shrugs off dust, and it looks better on day ten than day one. Every piece in our leather collection ships free with 30-day returns - order this week and it arrives before the first parade.
