If you are over 6'1", you already know the problem: jackets that fit your chest end somewhere above your belt, and sleeves stop short of your wrists. Here is how to solve both.
The Two Failure Points
- Body length. Manufacturers scale chest measurements faster than length. Size up for the torso and you get a jacket that is too wide through the body but still slightly short.
- Sleeve length. Same issue, more visible. A cuff sitting two inches above your wrist bone is the single clearest sign of a badly-sized jacket.
What to Measure Before Ordering
Ignore S/M/L entirely. Get these three numbers from any jacket that currently fits you well, measured flat:
- Back length - collar seam to hem. This is the number that matters most for tall frames.
- Sleeve length - shoulder seam to cuff.
- Chest - armpit to armpit, doubled.

Silhouettes That Work at Height
- Truckers and overshirts - naturally longer in the body, so they land correctly rather than riding up. Our Trucker Harrington line is a good starting point.

What to Avoid
Cropped bombers with deep ribbed hems. On a tall frame they hit at the natural waist and visually cut you in half. If you love the style, look for a version with a longer body and shallower ribbing.
The Alteration Question
Sleeves are the exception to the usual advice. On most jackets a leather tailor can only shorten sleeves, not lengthen them - so buy for length and have them taken up if needed. That reverses the normal instinct, and it is the single most useful thing a tall buyer can know.
Fit Rules Still Apply
