1960s London. Riders on stripped-down bikes raced between cafés - the Ace Café most famously - and needed jackets with nothing to catch the wind or the road. Everything decorative came off. What remained is the silhouette we still wear.
Café Racer vs Classic Biker: The Real Differences
- Zip: straight up the centre on a racer; diagonal across the chest on a moto.
- Collar: a low band or mandarin collar versus wide notch lapels.
- Hardware: minimal - often a single zip and two pockets - versus belts, epaulettes and multiple zips.
- Read: a racer looks intentional under a coat or over a shirt; a moto always announces itself.

Styling It
The racer's whole advantage is restraint - lean into it. White tee, dark straight jeans, boots or plain sneakers. It also works over a knit and under an overcoat, which no classic moto really does.
